Doorways and door dreams bring opportunities for access, change, and transition. However, these doors may look unusual, like portals, ladders, lighting changes, or even parting clouds. Some doors create challenges or questions. What should you do when a door is locked, or more than one opens to you?
Newly crowned Miss World 2019, (Toni-Ann Singh) was asked if she planned to sing professionally. Her response piqued my interest. She said If the door opens… I will walk through it. The Holy Spirit has been speaking about doors again. So, in this post we will look at different doorways and door dreams.

A Doorway Open in Heaven
In Revelation chapter four, the Apostle John saw “a door standing open in heaven.” He heard a voice say, “Come up here, and I will show you things which must take place after this.” The word strange is inadequate to describe the timeless portal John entered and what he witnessed!
He felt the despair of all of heaven, the earth, and under the earth, when absolutely no one was found worthy to open or decode the scrolls of life. No one, except the Lamb of God! John received a magnificent Revelation of Jesus Christ and things to come. We, too, can expect revelations of the Lord Jesus through heavenly doorways and door dreams and visions.
Doorways and Door Dreams
In dreams, we may see a variety of doorways, such as, revolving doors, skylights, or trap doors. However, doors are sometimes hidden by a wall (like in an airport bathroom), a hedge, or a large rock. For example, in C S Lewis’ much beloved The Chronicles of Narnia, the doorway to that kingdom was inside an old wardrobe beyond the fur coats.
Tunnels, Bridges, Elevators in Dreams

Sometimes, there is no obvious doorway, but we see ourselves in a new place or season. In our dreams, we may travel through a tunnel, down a hallway, across a bridge, or up an elevator. These types of dreams and visions show us transitioning or changing location or status. (For example, when Jacob saw a ladder spanning from the earth to heaven, God restated the covenant He made with Abraham.)
Twilight Dreams
In our dreams, the ambient lighting might change from dark to light (or vice versa). This transition lighting or twilight, like the dawn or dusk, either begins or ends a transition period. In the spirit realm, the lighting change may signify our walk through the different chambers of the Tabernacle or starting a new “season” of life. (There are more hours of daylight in the summer than in winter.)
Locked Doorways and Door Dreams

Getting past locked doorways and doors requires a “key” unless an angel comes to unlock it (as in Acts 5:19)! And there will be times when God closes doors. For example, the Holy Spirit allowed Paul to preach in Galatia and Phrygia, but not Asia and Bithynia. Then, Paul was called to Macedonia through a vision (Acts 16:6-9).
The Book of Isaiah declares that the Lord longingly waits for us until we learn to wait for Him! (30:18) Sometimes we must ask, knock, or worship for a door to spring open (Matthew 7:7-8, Acts 16:25-26). Regardless, it is wiser to walk through an open door than to kick down a closed one. An open door usually leads to another, then another until we arrive at Destiny.

When Satan blocks a door that should be open, we must fight the good fight of faith, and then, having done all, we must stand (Ephesians 6:13). Victory comes as quickly when we surrender to the Holy Spirit and allow God to do what and how He pleases (Psalm 115:3, Isaiah 55:8-9). And unlike The Parable of the Drowning Man, we should always expect the unexpected!
Choosing Doorways and Door Dreams
It may feel like we’ve hit the jackpot when multiple doors open at the same time. However, we must carefully discern as one will be a better choice than others. Having to decide which to choose or what to do can be scary. But when we walk in the Spirit, we will hear His Voice and obey Him (John 7:17, 10:27).

Sometimes, I check my past dreams and find God has already answered my questions. At other times, the answer is found in the Scriptures or received through prayer. I try to choose the door that does not offend God’s ways or laws. However, when I make the wrong choice, the Holy Spirit corrects me, and He does it kindly.
The truth is God really wants us to succeed; so, He shouts instructions to us! (Proverbs 1:20-23). Choosing the right doors will increase our faith and peace (Colossians 3:15).
The door God opens may not look glamorous or open the widest. For example, Joseph made the right choice but ended up in prison before he was promoted (Genesis 39-41). Who could have guessed that the prison would be a door to the palace? Truly, the pathway to the Kingdom of Light is narrow and less traveled.
My dream shared here reflects this:
DREAM: A Narrow Doorway
DREAM: It was getting dark outside when I squeezed through a narrow entrance to a rather plain-looking home where I lived. Several large beds outside prevented the front door from opening outwards fully. Inside the house was exceedingly well-lit and beautiful, and my roommates were British (U.K.) royals!
DREAM ANALYSIS AND INTERPRETATION: (The United Kingdom symbol means Kingdom, Revelation 1:6. Beds/bedrooms symbolize intimacy. Getting dark is a change of ambient lighting, a time of transition. The plain-looking house had a narrow doorway, and bright lights inside).
The Way into the Kingdom is through intimacy with the King. It will become more obvious that life in the Kingdom of Light is neither attractive looking to this world nor easily accessed. 1 Peter 2:9 summarizes this dream.
Since dreams give us instructions, it is best to learn how to interpret them. Granted, the Holy Spirit speaks repeatedly and in many different ways because He knows how easily we get distracted! It also helps to get to know Jesus, the Door to life who holds the Key that unlocks and locks doors (John 10: 7, Revelation 3: 7-8).
As we enter new seasons, may the Lord help us to remain watchful for opportunities and be discerning in our choices. Amen!
