Parallel dimensions, sometimes called alternate realities or parallel universes, make exciting topics for science fiction. The Bible proves these supernatural worlds exist, and they are visible through dreams and visions. This post explores some of these mysterious realities, realms, and portals.
What Are Dimensions?
Merriam-Webster defines a dimension as a measure or extension in one direction. Length, width, and height account for three dimensions (or 3-D). The 4th dimension is spatial. Take a 3-D cube and geometrically extend it into space over time to create 4-D.

While daily timekeeping is necessary for us, it is less crucial in Heaven. The Bible tells us that one day is as a thousand years to the Lord, and a thousand years as one day (2 Peter 3:8). Furthermore, time travel is always a fascinating topic for science fiction lovers and dreamers alike.
Are Parallel Dimensions in the Bible?
There are many occurrences of parallel dimensions in the Bible. For instance,
- The angel Gabriel told Zacharias (Zechariah) that he would soon be the father of John the Baptist. However, the angel also reported that he was standing in the Presence of God. In other words, the angel straddled two dimensions (the visible and the invisible). (Luke 1:18-19)
- When Prophet Elisha and his servant Gehazi faced danger, Gehazi was fearful until God “opened” his eyes. All of a sudden, Gehazi saw God’s invisible armies – soldiers and chariots of fire (2 Kings 6:17-20).
- As the reckless prophet Balaam hurried to receive gold and recognition for his prophecies, he failed to see the armed Angel of the Lord blocking his path. However, his astute donkey gave a verbal warning, sparing his master’s life. (Numbers 22:21-34).
- The Seven Spirits of God are the seven lamps before the Throne of God and the Seven Eyes on the Lamb. (Revelations 4:5; 5-6)
Evidently, these Eyes see throughout the earth.
- Second Chronicles 16:9 states, “For the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show Himself strong on behalf of those whose heart is loyal to Him.”
- Accordingly, “The eyes of the Lord are in every place, keeping watch on the evil and the good.” (Proverbs 15:3)
- The Eyes of Lord Jesus are “like a flame of fire,” both seeing and producing light (Revelation 1:14).
Elements in Alternate Dimensions
Elements exist in alternate states. For example, fire is an essential tool, that purges and destroys almost anything. However, fire manifests as power and protection in a parallel world, symbolizing the Holy Spirit. (Acts 2:1-4; Daniel 3:16-28)
Similarly, water hydrates and cleanses naturally but flows invisibly as the Holy Spirit. (John 7:38)
Seeing Alternate Realities
Some years ago, I glimpsed tiny faces peering down over the edge of an opening through my ceiling. The vision reminded me of Hebrews 12:1, which tells us we are surrounded by an invisible “great cloud of witnesses.”
Scriptures also suggest that the “eye” grants access to other dimensions, but sin clouds our vision. (Genesis 3:2-6; Isaiah 29:9-14) Mercifully, Jesus came to “open our eyes,” spiritually (and physically).
“In Christ,” we can see alternate realities, the Kingdom of Heaven, and unseen depths through Scriptures, dreams, and visions. Granted, sometimes we see things we do not comprehend.
Other Parallel Dimensions
Cherubim
In the sixth century BC, the prophet Ezekiel encountered unusual-looking angels (Cherubim). He described four-sided faces, wings, and wheels full of eyes beside them. Each cherub moved straight ahead, did not turn, and darted backward and forward like lightning (Ezekiel chapter 1).
While pondering Ezekiel’s vision, I heard the words “pulse holography” (video demo), which I had to look up. ”Like lightning” also suggests Ezekiel may have seen projected images of Cherubim from God’s Throne in Heaven. (Revelation 4:6-8)
Moreover, these heavenly guardians most likely watch over parallel dimensions with technology that far supersedes ours. (Proverbs 15:3)
Parallel Places
Many years ago, I dreamed about a parallel place, a counter-image of the natural dimension.
I was visiting an apartment, and subtle signs alerted me that it was not the real version. For example, a black logoed shirt looked similar to a real-life white one. The kitchen pantry’s soup cans had red and white labels upside down to the real-life design.
In another scene, I saw an aerial view of a pair of islands resembling mirror images of each another.
Still, another scene of the same dream showed ancient underwater ruins and referenced “the Greek Islands” in the Caribbean.
Of course, islands are wordplay for “eye-lands” or the seer realm. The islands in my dream (not found on any map) were located in the infamous Bermuda Triangle just north of the Turks and Caicos.
Some years later, after my pastor taught us about the marine kingdom, I became aware of a parallel world on land and in the water. (Revelation 12:12, 13:1; Ezekiel 29:3; Isaiah 27:1; Psalm 104:26)

In essence, Satan’s kingdom “mirrors” the hierarchy of the Kingdom of Heaven (in which we serve). Furthermore, the marine city of Atlantis might not be a myth, as accepted.
(We will discuss marine kingdom dreams in the third course of our Dream Meanings Program, “Becoming a Dream Warrior.”)
Dimensional Layers

Imagine looking at a slice of your favorite layered cake. This perfectly describes a street I saw in a dream (location unknown). The trans-section showed seven dimensional layers of the street with houses, cars, and sky.
Each parallel plane looked similar, with subtle differences. No two were identical.
Parallel Dimensions and Realms
Although we use the words interchangeably, there are differences between realms and dimensions. Basically, dimensions are parallel horizontal planes (like the street in my dream). On the other hand, realms are kingdoms described as spheres or domains governed by rulers.
Spheres
The Bible reveals that God has appointed us to spheres to influence and rule with the gifts He has given us.
- We, however, will not boast beyond measure, but within the limits of the sphere which God appointed us—a sphere which especially includes you … having hope, that as your faith is increased, we shall be greatly enlarged … in our sphere, to preach the gospel in the regions beyond you, and not to boast in another man’s sphere of accomplishment. (2 Corinthians 10:13-16)

This graphic reflects my current understanding. Layered dimensions intersect with two Kingdoms – Light and Darkness. Here, thrones, dominions, powers, principalities, rulers, and angelic agents meet and compete to influence the hearts and minds of men.
Portals
A portal is simply an entry point into a parallel dimension or realm. These “doorways” may open through clouds or even a mirror.
Perhaps the best-known example in the Bible is Jacob’s Ladder, but the experience is not exclusive to Jacob. Jesus told His disciple Nathanael that he would “see” angels ascending and descending upon the Son of Man. (John 1:43-51)
We can find examples of portals in the Word (John 20:19-20), Christ (Ephesians 2:4-6), prayer (James 5:13-16), and Holy Communion. (1 Corinthians 11:27-30).
There is also a cryptic account of Jesus “hiding” Himself from an angry mob ready to throw Him down from a cliff (Luke 4:28-30). Did He enter an invisible “door”?
Indeed, God can hide us from evil through Jesus Christ, who came to rescue us from the dominion of darkness! (Job 28:7; Psalm 91).
Parallel Dimensions: Beyond Seeing
We sometimes interact with parallel dimensions beyond just seeing them. In fact, many have “felt” the supernatural presence of heat or electricity, smelled an unusual fragrance, or heard speech or other sounds from unseen sources.
Dream: I was standing near the flower bed in my front yard. Suddenly, I heard the sound of traffic, cars, and trucks coming from below my flower bed. I was puzzled. I kept looking but could only see the plants.
Eventually, I realized that I was “hearing” another dimension. Likewise, Ezekiel “heard” a thunderous noise behind him, and the Apostle John “heard” a voice like a trumpet coming from an open door in Heaven. (Ezekiel 3:12,13; Revelation 4:1)
In summary, the Bible fully supports the existence of parallel dimensions, and our dreams and visions make them real to us. Even so, we grow to discern these mysterious places by finding our dream meanings in the Scriptures!
