Opening and Closing Spiritual Doors analyzes two dreams with hidden messages about revelation, intercession, and access. Here is a short video summary of the dreams then we will look at the dream meanings.
Dream Analysis – Opening and Closing Spiritual Doors
The dreams came less than two weeks apart. The second, seen on Christmas morning (2023), has three scenes, including a vision. Looking at them from a heavenly perspective gave understanding of the doorknob and the light bowl symbols.
In the second dream, the ophthalmologist represents the Holy Spirit. She resembled Dr. Elizabeth Vaughan, an “eye” doctor and anointed teacher of the Word. So, I gathered that the dream was about something I “see” (dreams and visions).

Opening and Closing Doors with Doorknobs
Doorknobs are tools that open and close doors. In the dreams, I could not turn the spiritual knobs. But according to the Bible (Revelation 3:7-8), it is the Lord who opens and closes spiritual doors. The doors He opens allow entry to a new place or opportunity. In contrast, closed doors keep undesirable things out (like the pests and reptiles that sometimes get into my garage!)
In the first dream, I wanted to close the door leading to the hallway. A hallway connects one place to another. Therefore, it represents change, transition, or transformation. There were white clothes next to me (mantles of righteousness). Likewise, the Bible says we are to “put on” Christ to walk in righteousness and purity (Romans 13:13-14). The white sock (the Lord’s peace, Ephesians 6:15) enabled me to close the door to things that could hinder my spiritual walk.
Closing Spiritual Doors with Peace
Interestingly, the same next-door neighbor from my dream knocked on my door one week later. She asked for help to loosen a bolt. I quickly assisted her by finding the right tool for the job. However, I later learned her husband would not help her because they were at odds. (There was no peace.)
I believe the Holy Spirit used her in my dream to show me that peace (the sock) is a multi-purpose a tool. Peace allows us to receive revelation, keeps our bodies healthy, and maintains harmony in our homes. Peace is also a spiritual weapon ( 2 Corinthians 10:4-5, Romans 16:20).
Further, the dream shows that opening and closing spiritual doors often requires spiritual support. Some doors will only close through God’s supernatural Peace. On the other hand, I used a different tool (my cardigan) to open the eye doctor’s office door. In this dream, my cardigan represents my God-assigned mantle (2 Kings 2:14). However, the dream reveals that there is something else that I could access as an intern. More on this shortly.
Light and Intimacy Bring Revelation for Intercession
The light bowl in the second dream was a vision because it was “supernatural.” Visions allow us to “see” other dimensions beyond what we see with our natural eyes. As discussed in our Laying Dream Foundations course, a vision that is embedded within a dream helps to explain the dream.
Scriptures tell us that the prayers of saints ascend to Heaven like incense from golden bowls (Revelation 5:8, 8:3-4). Indeed, anything accepted by God must first have come from God. For example, wisdom, worship in spirit and truth, faith, love, forgiveness, and patience all come from Heaven. Certainly, all the Fruit of the Spirit come from the Holy Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23).
In the dream, the dancing lights near the ceiling (between Heaven and Earth) above the door assembled into a bowl. Then the light bowl in Peter’s room (Peter signifying the rock of revelation) rested on the bed (intimacy). This suggests that prayer (intercession) originates from true light (or revelation) and intimacy (bed) with God. Since the vision refers to an appointed time, the eye doctor had to wait and rest (Habakkuk 2:2-3). So, intercession means “standing in the gap” by praying for another person (or a nation) (Ezekiel 22:30). It is not about what we want but what God reveals. (Taking a photo means: Remember this!)
Opening Spiritual Doors with the Word
One characteristic of spiritual dreams (like the ones I just shared) is that they agree with Scriptures and sermons. I saw these dreams when I was studying the books of Jeremiah and Amos. By no coincidence, the Scriptures explain what else I could access in the eye-doctor’s office.
Prophet Jeremiah lived in very evil times (not unlike our day). Some of the other prophets, especially those the king listened to contradicted the message that God delivered through Jeremiah – that God was about to drive the people out of their Land. Jeremiah was hated, and he suffered for his words, but in the end, as usual, God’s words proved true. Jeremiah begged God to show mercy when warning about harsh judgments. He also invited “true” prophets to pray with him (Jeremiah 14:7-15:9; 27:16-22).
In another place and time, the prophet Amos, an unknown shepherd and farmer, was minding his business when the Lord called him to prophesy. Likewise, the people rejected his message. Still, Amos’ compassionate intercession prevented terrible judgments. (Amos 7:12-17; 7:2-6).
God’s mercy came with the promise that things would go very well for those who accepted His correction. On one hand, He planned to bring Israel and Judah back to their homeland and bless them again. But, on the other hand, God confirmed that things would not go well for those who tried to escape His judgment. Anyone who listened to the false prophets, ran to Egypt, or resisted the invaders was doomed to die by the sword, famine, or pestilence. (Jeremiah 29:10-14; 29:17; 42:17).
Dream Meaning, Intercession and Access
So, what is the meaning of these dreams? I believe God is saying that He gives dreams and visions for our instruction. Dreams can show how to close spiritual doors to unpleasant situations, walk in righteousness, and pray for others (and nations). God does not always change His mind in response to our prayer requests to defer judgment. Nevertheless, the Bible states that we must pray for the peace of the city where we live so that we, too, can live in peace. (Jeremiah 29:7)
And here is the main thing that my dream suggests that an “intern” may access.
Amos and Jeremiah are notable examples for those who stood in the gap for others. Neither was the son of (raised as) a prophet nor wanted to be a bearer of bad news. Furthermore, God did not ask them to pray for His stubborn and rebellious people. In fact, God told Jeremiah not to pray (Jeremiah 7:16).
Nevertheless, Jeremiah and Amos both pleaded for God’s mercies.
Why do you suppose God allowed these prophets special “access” to His Ear? Was it because He knew they would pray for His people anyway? I think so!
When God gives revelation about other people or discloses His plans to judge evil, we can be sure of two things. One, God listens to our words; two, He examines whether our hearts align with His. It is true that the Lord sees, hears, and knows everything in advance. But if He accepts our petitions and desires, it does not matter, even if others reject our message. We can be confident that we will open the door to His Ear. (1 John 5:14-15)
Thanks for listening to my dreams about opening and closing spiritual doors. In truth, I am still chewing, just as I was doing in the dream!

That is so good. I understand how you’re still chewing, Jacquie.
I just walked out prophetically, where prevailing love in patient, persistent equipping, led the way to resist and close the doors that wanted to have a place in the future, and simultaneously, opened the doors of Daddy Yahweh’s desires and delights of a purified Bride and Kingdom reign. I’m still chewing.
Thank you for your valuable treasure chest. As dreams are riddles and treasures, I find that literally living out prophecy in experience is as well. Do I make sense, to understand, in the few words I wrote?
Thank you, Katharine! Yes, I completely understand. You made a difficult but successful transition. Agree, spiritual dreams are symbolic prophetic movies of things we get to experience in real life. Thanks for your feedback.
You certainly have a fresh take on the subject, Jacquie. I’ll visit again.
Thank you 🙏🏽
