Dreams about houses are quite common: a house lived in, a symbolic house never lived in, or someone else’s house. These types of dreams can give insight into the lives of the residents. The following was journaled well over a decade ago, but I was led to review it again as the message is for this hour.
The vision in the dream (view through the window) reveals that a part of my house, like every other house, is under construction, and an angel (the guard) is assigned to restrict access to the construction zones. I repented of something (visited the bathroom) before returning to the living room. (Sin hinders our fellowship with the Lord.)
God’s Glory (the thick cloud) will be revealed as night falls (spiritual warfare increases). The Lord is watching over and praying for/commissioning those who labor (the two construction workers) to help to bring his saints to full maturity in Christ (complete their houses) until the manifestation of His perfecting Grace (the number 5). I will observe what the Lord is doing in the glory and work with Him.
Not only did the Holy Spirit recently remind me about this dream (out of many house dreams), He repeatedly spoke – Dwell in Me, and I in you (John 15:4). So, I followed His breadcrumbs through Scriptures to learn more about His dwelling place, and made some surprising discoveries. I will share here some of what I learned:
God’s House: The Temple
King David desired to build a house (temple) but the Lord told him, “Your son, whom I will set on your throne in your place, he shall build the house for My name” (I Kings 5:5). So King Solomon built the temple, and as God required, the blood of animals was shed before the Ark of the Covenant was brought into its new home.
God showed His approval of the sanctified place by attending the temple dedication ceremony (His housewarming party). In fact, the cloud of His Presence was so thick that the priests had to suspend their duties (1 Kings 8:10-11).
⭐️ In the coming glory, God will commission who He wants and what He wants and specify how it should be done⭐️
King Solomon may not have realized how prophetic His prayer was in asking if God could dwell on the earth:
God’s House: In Jesus’ Name
We often hear the words “in Jesus Name” at the end of a prayer; however, according to the Scriptures God’s Name is more than a seal of authority, His Name is a place that we can access.
Jesus disclosed a temple not built with bricks and mortar, (His body), which the Jews considered to be blasphemous. When He prayed for His disciples, He actually specified the location of this temple: His Name.
God’s House: The Floor plan
You may recall that God’s Tabernacle had three chambers: an uncovered outer court accessed by a gate, and two covered chambers. The innermost chamber is the Holy of Holies.
Well, we were also created with three parts: our visible body, and two covered parts, the soul and the spirit. When our innermost part (the spirit) experiences rebirth, by accepting Jesus’ atoning work for us (the shedding of His Blood), our spirit becomes connected to God’s Spirit so we become One with Him.
I Corinthians 6:17 says But he who is joined to the Lord is one spirit with Him.
I wonder if we look somewhat like nested Russian babushka dolls: a layer within a layer within a layer.
God’s House: His Body
Every house has a door, an entrance. Only a burglar would try to enter through a window. Similarly, the only authorized way into God’s House is through Jesus Christ, the Door, and He is the only way to remain there (John 10:1,9). We (who are joined to the Lord) are the body of Christ (God’s House), He is our head and we are members individually (1 Corinthians 12:27).
Dream Mystery Solved
I finally understood what God was showing me! The lovely living room in my dream is symbolic of the dwelling place of the Spirit, a virtual meeting place wherever two or more are gathered in His Name and He is present. The other rooms still under construction are the soul and the body.
⭐️ God lives in me (my house), but there is an inner room (my spirit) which totally belongs to Him. His house is occupied and furnished by His Spirit. So when I am in His house, I am actually living and walking in the Spirit! ⭐️
The soul is under construction. It is in the process of being perfected as we feed on God’s Words, but the body will not be made perfect until Resurrection Day (1 Corinthians 15). Thankfully, God has made provision for us to be healed through the Body and Blood of Jesus (Communion).
Our communion with the Lord and with other members of the body of Christ takes place in the Spirit, This is the place from which we can intercede for others even from a distance. Remember how the Apostle Paul, in the Spirit, knew exactly what was going on in the Corinthian church even when he was miles away?
He also reminded them that the body of Christ is indivisible (1Corinthians 5:3-4, 11:17-30). To not discern the body of Christ as One at the Communion table, is to despise His provision for our redemption and healing. The obvious risk? Sickness and death!
⭐️ In the dwelling place of His Name, there are no divisions, no unforgiveness, no criticisms of other members of His body. Jesus builds His Church and protects her in His Name ⭐️
And that angel guard I saw in my dream, he was not there to restrict my access. He was assigned to prevent my unregenerate parts (soul, flesh) from breaking into the living room of the Spirit!
We can spend as much time with the Lord as we choose in the living room of the Spirit where He dwells, but we cannot be ignorant of heart bandits: The concerns-of-life, an illness, worldly-treasures or the lack of, desire-for-fame, self-promotion, factions that are always trying to lure us back to the outer court where the flesh feels gratified. Add to the list an excessive focus on spiritual gifts.
Once the Holy Spirit activates the gifts He placed in us, He does not recall them even if we leave (Romans 11:29). Sadly, some saints unknowingly depart His dwelling place or leave the premises altogether! (Matthew 7:21-23).
Our Heart, His Home
⭐️ All works of ministry, prayers, prophecies, pastoring, teaching, evangelism, communing with the Lord and with other saints are best exercised from the dwelling place of the Spirit⭐️
⭐️Our full-time job is to believe that as we abide in Christ (a place) He will transform us (His work) and fulfill His Will through us⭐️
Being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ (Philippians 1:6)
We are pilgrims
Thanksgiving is celebrated this week in the United States of America and as pilgrims ourselves, we must journey from front Gate (salvation) to the innermost room (Communion) without wandering off the beaten path or getting distracted along the way. Psalm 84 is one of many Scriptures written about finding and dwelling in God’s House, a place of honor even for a doorkeeper (verse 10).
⭐️ To ascend to God’s House often looks life a race to the bottom because self-denial and cross-carrying are not qualities esteemed by this world. We eventually learn to prefer honor that comes from God (John 5:44)⭐️
Our self (the soul) and body are chiefly focused on self-improvement and appearance and have little interest in the place of communion. So, God often takes us to the heat of the battle, after a period of preparation, not up to the tower …but to the valley. The Valley of Baca (Psalm 84: 6). For this is where through brokenness we are strengthened in our inner parts, and experience life-transforming encounters with God (verse 7).
His Heart is our Home!
We enter His Gates with thanksgiving and His courts with praise, but as was true for the Holy of Holies in the Tabernacle, there is far less activity in the living room of the Spirit. There is no negotiation with the soul here. No feelings of rejection or unworthiness or not feeling loved. There are no temptations of the flesh or addictions. This is the place we worship the Father, usually with no or few words. This is the place we wait for the Lord, His Presence, and His instructions and this is the place we are One with other members of His Body who have also found His living room.
When You said, “Seek My face,” My heart said to You, “Your face, Lord, I will seek.” (Psalms 27:8)
⭐️ At salvation, we invite Jesus to live in our hearts. But to dwell in His House, we cannot be satisfied with the meager accommodations offered by our soul or flesh. We must respond to His inviting knock on the door of our heart – to enter His heart (Song of Solomon 5:2-6).⭐️
We live in Him as He lives in the Father.
No one has seen God at any time. The only begotten Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, He has declared Him. (John 1:18)
What else is found in God’s House? In the inner chambers of the Spirit the Blood defends us, we dwell in the shadow of the Almighty and grow His Fruit. We find wisdom and understanding, blessings, protection, and answered prayers (see John 4: 23-24, John 15:4-5, Psalms 84; Psalms 112:3, Psalms 91, Haggai 2:8-9 and many more).
We are in Christ. (Colossians 2:9-10),
And we are thankful.
May we find Grace to dwell in Him. Happy Thanksgiving!
I was glad when they said to me, “Let us go into the house of the Lord.” (Psalms 122:1).
